Deloitte, one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms in the world has purchased and unveiled a bitcoin ATM in its building in Toronto.

Deloitte now has a new bitcoin automatic teller machine (BTM) in its Toronto office.

A tweet released by non-profit financial services organization The Social Wallet, revealed the first sighting of the Bitcoin ATM and soon started making rounds on social media.

C4  president Michael Perklin who is pictured in the image told CCN.com that the BTM was manufactured by Ottawa-based BitAccess.

“This BitAccess Bitcoin Teller Machine was purchased by Deloitte to buy and sell bitcoins out of their building in Toronto,” Perklin revealed.

The unveiling took place on the 6th floor of the building among the offices of Deloitte’s Rubix, a team that focused exclusively on developing blockchain applications. The blockchain-centric division of Deloitte is also the reason for the BTM to find a place in the company’s premises.

Illiana Oris Valiente, co-founder and strategy lead of Rubix stated  that the initiative to install a BTM was in the works for a couple of months while adding:

We thought it was really important to show people how to get access to bitcoin, because it is really the entry point to understand the broader implications of blockchain.

Cryptocurrency enthusiasts will find it refreshing to see bitcoin at the front and center of Rubix’s endeavor to push for wider blockchain awareness and adoption. It seems to be working already, even among those in the services firm.

“The Deloitte employees who were at the unveiling seemed enthusiastic about the machine,” Perklin added.

While the unveiling took place among the offices on the 6th floor of the building, the machine is now on the 2nd floor lobby which makes the BTM conveniently accessible to the general public.

“The public can enter the building, go up an escalator, and use the machine without signing into the building itself or otherwise dealing with security,” revealed Perklin.

This was confirmed by Rubix who posted a picture of the two-way Bitcoin ATM on social media:

According to BTM resource site CoinATMradar, Toronto is home to the highest number of Bitcoin ATMs in Canada with 38 BTMs installed in and around Toronto. Canada has a total of 110 BTMs, second only to the United States. While Bitcoin ATMs have steadily increased in numbers over the years across the world, 2016 has seen a notable spike in the number of new machines installed.

Over a third of all operational BTMs in the world were installed since the turn of the year, with Deloitte’s BTM marking the 775th teller machine for the popular cryptocurrency.
