Venture capitalist Bill Tai has joined blockchain-powered peer-to-peer renewable marketplace Power Ledger’s board of advisors as an ambassador for the Australian company.

The Silicon Valley-based investor is well known among the blockchain community and is co-creator of the Blockchain Summit, which recently took place on Sir Richard Branson’s private retreat, Necker Island.

Power Ledger co-founder and chair Dr Jemma Green was at the Summit where she gave a presentation on what her company was doing to apply the blockchain for the decentralization of energy systems. While there she met with Tai where it was revealed he would become an ambassador for Power Ledger.

Tai said:

Power Ledger is a standout among the companies at our gathering, solving a real problem in an enormous market. Jemma and her team have shown the world how blockchain based technology can be applied to create liquidity and efficiency in the renewable energy markets with a solution that can be truly transformative.

Dr Jemma Green added that it was extremely exciting to have Tai as a member of the team.

To have someone of Bill’s calibre as an ambassador within the team, will really help bring about change on a global scale. Having Bill on board is a big win for us and we’re looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

Founded in 2016, Power Ledger was developed and deployed in Western Australia becoming the first peer-to-peer platform to transact energy in the world. In the first quarter of 2017, the energy company announced its token generation event  with the aim of offering future customers the opportunity to fund the platform and to accelerate development through POWR tokens.

Tai added:

The application of blockchain technology is making itself known in so many different industries now. Power Ledger’s solution is in the final stages of commercial deployment, and shows massive promise in the future of renewable energy and decentralizing the grid.
