Despite the internet is predominant in our routine, there is still one aspect of our society that we are waiting to be digitalized: the voting system.

Blockchain represents the solution to the main concerns regarding the remote voting system. This technology, in fact, allows collecting votes in an unremovable way through cryptographic transactions on the blockchain. Process avoid hacker attacks due to his decentralized nature: every device connected to the chain contribute to validate the validity of transactions before to store in the chain forever. In this way, it’s possible to create the first version of a remote voting technology that prevents malicious behavior and third parties attack, by using some technical control tools.

Remote voting is a disruptive technology, able to change our democracy in a more solid way, by increasing voter turnout since the fact that the majority of the democratic  population has access to the internet and owns at least one device able to run a oting
dApp (decentralized application).

Furthermore, the Z generation is approaching the right to vote for the first time and their tech confidence represent the true enhancement into our societies behavior; they will be the first generation to have never voted with paper and pencil. The Challenge

Blockchain is close to celebrating 10 years on the internet and is currently transacting millions of transaction per day, mainly for financial operations. Despite this technology is so disruptive, its usage growth has required many years and we still are in the early stage of its life; we have to wait several other years in order to have a democratization process as it has happened with the internet itself.

Our mission at Boulé, it to create a new field of application (the voting system), and to provide a trustful, easy and equal access to anyone, that will warrant to avoiding external intrusions and electoral frauds and that will preserve the anonymity of electors.

To accomplish our mission, we are onboarding the best talents into our team and the most forward-looking advisors on our advisory board.

The Boulé solution for a Remote Voting Technology

In order to warrant an hacker-proof voting system, every election will have his own smart contract to set its electoral rules and to manage its voting account. The process starts with the elector authentication, with a digital recognition process allowed by the
government that hosts the election. This process required several security steps, without wasting too much time for electors to authenticate.

Once the identity is confirmed, it is stored forever on the blockchain. The elector then can express his preference that will be saved on the chain in an anonymous way, through an encrypted string of random code; this solution makes impossible to reverse
the transaction and discover the elector identity.

Of course, the transition process from in loco voting and remote voting will take time and requires an integrated solution since the digital vote will become predominant in the electors’ behavior.

With this technology, everyone can check the results of the election in real time after the consultation period closed. There will be no more doubt about the winner and on the stack of votes collected because transactions will be publicly visible on a digital record.

An elector can change his vote without any limit until the end of the consultation period: the last recorded transaction will be the only one valid for the accounting. All other transactions changed remain stored on the chain, but their vote will not be accounted.

In this way, we are empowering democracy, by reducing geographical limits, increasing the security system, giving a clear and public way to control the entire process (from the smart contract code that runs the election, until the number of votes expressed).

We aim to drive electors into a more committed relationship with institutions for stronger societies and most active citizenship, in a sort of liquid democratic power.Furthermore, the Z generation is approaching the right to vote for the first time
and their tech confidence represent the true enhancement into our societies behavior; they will be the first generation to have never voted with paper and pencil.
