airdrop1The Bitcoin Embassy and McGill Cryptocurrency Club, the official hub for cryptocurrency at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, have done a very cool thing, as can be seen in this video:

Promoting Bitcoin and educating the public for nearly two years now, The Bitcoin Embassy team has made it their mission to put bitcoins in the hands of the people.

The team has penned educational resources, organized events, held training sessions and offered technical assistance, all the while remaining in touch with the media.

Now, The Bitcoin Embassy plans to team up with the McGill Cryptocurrency Club to give more than $1000 of bitcoins for free to students on the McGill University Campus at the Open Air Pub organized by the Engineering Undergraduate Society, which took place on February 23rd and 24th.

According to the Bitcoin Embassy,

“The concept of the Bitcoin Airdrop was first introduced at MIT in 2014. The goal was simple: create a Bitcoin micro-economy on campus by giving out free bitcoins to students. While our project is similar, we opted for a strategy that the Bitcoin Embassy had already tested out at the Montreal Grand Prix in 2014.”

The Embassy’s “Bitcoin Educational Packages” contained a paper wallet loaded with about $5 of bitcoin. The package also included a What is Bitcoin 4 page primer and a Bitcoin Wallet Guide (security and tips).

airdrops_package4 bitcoins were raised from the Bitcoin Embassy and Bitcoin Canada to fund the paper wallets. The Students have 2 weeks to redeem the bitcoins, and remaining bitcoins will be used in a Bitcoin raffle for McGill students and for Bitcoin promotion (flyers, stickers, etc.). Approximately 25% of the private keys were successfully imported within 24 hours.

The Bitcoin Embassy strives to be a source of information for investors, VCs, holding corporate presentations and events within their 14,000 square feet of space.

The Bitcoin Embassy specializes in legal, regulation and government relations; blockchain technology and software development; bitcoin mining; bitcoin industry and investments; cryptography-based financial services.
