Bitcoin On POS Systems

The director of business development at NCR Small Business, Reggie Kimble, said one of the biggest reasons why they added bitcoin integration was to offer merchants more flexibility.

“Gone are the days when cash and cards were the only payment options available to customers shopping at small businesses,” Kimble said. “Offering bitcoin as a payment alternative allows small businesses the flexibility they need to better serve their growing number of customers who prefer digital payment solutions.”

In an industry that typically experiences low-profit margins, small businesses welcome the opportunity to accept multiple payment options, so long as it’s inexpensive, easy to use and integrates into their existing POS system. Some consider the move towards mobile payment options the continued evolution from cash to card merchants made years ago.

NCR Silver has also launched in-store PayPal payments and mobile pay ahead capability in the last few months. Bitcoin support will be integrated with NCR Silver by the end of 2014.
